MALDEN, MA — The Malden Police Department recently partnered with the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office to provide an interactive and scenario-based training program for its officers.

Eighty Malden police officers participated in the seven-day December initiative. The officers did not have to travel far for the training, as the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office brought the program to them with its mobile training center.

“The training opportunities we facilitate with the Mobile Training Center give officers the ability to work through complex, fast-moving scenarios before they happen in the real world,” Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian said.

The training reportedly featured a heavy focus on active shooter training scenarios. Koutoujian praised Malden Police Chief Glenn Cronin for making the training a priority for his officers to complete.

“Training in a controlled, live-fire environment improves judgment, coordination, and preparedness, which directly translates to greater public safety,” Cronin said. “I know I speak for the entire Malden Police Department in thanking Sheriff Koutoujian and the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office.”

The program came at no cost to Malden police. The Middlesex Sheriff's Office has the only mobile training center with a specific Laser Shot system in the state. The system helps create realistic shooting situations.
