Somerville Track Star Wins Globe's Athlete of the Year Award

Andre Rolim is the most decorated athlete in Somerville High School history.

Andre Rolim, a Somerville High School track star—the most decorated Somerville High School athlete in history, according to an announcement from the school—was recently named the Boston Globe/Will McDonough male athlete of the year.

The award adds to Rolim's laundry list of accomplishments as a student-athlete.

According to the announcement, he finished ninth in the 800-meter national title competition, finishing with a personal-best time of 1:52:31. He was already an all-state champion in the event.

He's also won a Boston Globe runner of the year award, multiple Boston Globe and Boston Herald all-scholastic indoor track and field awards, and has been ranked in the top five, nationally, in the indoor 600-meter event. He's an eight-time Greater Boston League all-star, according to the announcement. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

Rolim also plays soccer, and he's a two-time Greater Boston League all-star in that sport, the announcement says.
