Stolen Somerville Paintings Returned To Artist: Report

The art was returned one month after it was taken.

SOMERVILLE, MA — An artist’s stolen paintings were returned to him under mysterious circumstances, according to a report from Boston 25 News.

Somerville police recently released surveillance footage of a person dressed in all-black clothing removing artwork from the wall in the Somerville Open Studios’s lobby on 50 Prospect St. in early January. After hiding the painting outside, the person returns with a dark-colored sedan more than 30 minutes later to load the car with it and escape.

The stolen works were created by Adam Leveille, who said the return of his artwork followed a unique voicemail. The phone message told Leveille that his two paintings were down in the lobby of his apartment building, and he immediately went to retrieve them. According to Leveille, a neighbor of his saw the person who returned them.
