A garbage truck fell into a six-foot deep sinkhole Friday morning, closing down busy Prospect Street in Union Square, damaging sewer lines and resting on a gas line.

Strong Somerville Support for Markey in Tuesday's Election
Somerville voters showed strong support for Rep. Ed Markey in Tuesday's special election for Senate. In Somerville, about 83 percent of voters cast ballots for Markey, according to unofficial election results from the Somerville Election Department. About 16 percent of Somerville voters cast ballots for Republican Gabriel Gomez.
