MBTA: Federal Funding for Green Line at Risk Under Recent Proposal
A transportation financing proposal unveiled Tuesday by leaders in the state legislature likely won't encourage federal investment in the Green Line Extension, according to the transportation authority. According to a statement regarding the Green Line Extension sent by MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo, "The proposal released [Tuesday] does not appear to provide funding for the MBTA’s 'state of good repair' work, meaning the Federal Transit Administration is not likely to fund any portion of the cost of the $1.3 billion project."

Man Charged in Connection to 2009 Somerville Murder
The Middlesex District Attorney's office has charged two people in connection to the death of 24-year-old Somerville resident Christopher Souza, who was found murdered in 2009. The district attorney's office says Michael Barnett, 32, of Somerville, was indicted by a Middlesex grand jury on charges of murder, armed robbery and witness intimidation. Somerville resident Kelly Murray, 32, Barnett's girlfriend, has been charged with lying to police during the investigation and witness intimidation.

Spoke Wine Bar Opens in Davis Square
Spoke Wine Bar in Davis Square is officially open. The new neighborhood eatery will serve small dishes, such as cheese and charcuterie, along with wines from small, Old World producers, craft beers and a carefully chosen selection of cocktails, according to the wine bar's Facebook page.

The Somerville Stock Exchange, a project created by Somerville artist Tim Devin, documented a year in the life of Somerville through the lenses of three "stock" categories: community stocks, environment stocks and creative stocks. From March 31, 2012 to March 31 of this year, the Somerville Stock Exchange, like its Wall Street namesake, went through bear and bull markets, and certain stocks did better than others. We looked back at the project as it came to an end.

Markey Wins Somerville Democrats Straw Poll
Rep. Ed Markey beat Rep. Stephen Lynch in a straw poll taken Monday by the Somerville Democratic City Committee. According to an announcement from the Somerville Democrats, Markey received 51 votes and Lynch received 5 votes.

Matthew McLaughlin Jumps into Ward 1 Alderman Race
McLaughlin, 32, is now a candidate for alderman in Ward 1. The Somerville native is joining a race that also includes sitting Ward 1 Alderman Maureen Bastardi and East Somerville businessman Elio LoRusso. McLaughlin sees his candidacy as a continuation of the work he's done with Save Our Somerville, which he helped found.
