Here's what's open and closed in Somerville on July 4.
OPEN AND CLOSED
- Retail stores: Open at owner's discretion
- Supermarkets and liquor stores: Open
- Convenience stores: Open
- Bars and restaurants: Open
- Stock market: Closed
- Municipal offices: Closed
- Banks: Closed
- Libraries: Closed
- Schools: Closed
- Post office: Closed
Parking meters will not be enforced.
TRASH PICKUP
Holiday schedule on July 4 and July 5. Put your trash out the day after your normal pickup day.
MBTA
To accommodate increased ridership and an Esplanade fireworks display, the MBTA has doled out a few schedule changes and different rules for July 4.
- All subway lines will operate on a Sunday schedule, except after 2 p.m. (see below).
- Commuter rail will operate on a Saturday schedule, see here for last train times.
- After 2 p.m., Subway will operate at rush hour levels.
- Subways will be free after 9:30 p.m.
- Bicycles are not allowed on Subways all day, and not allowed on inbound commuter rail trains from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., outbound trains after 4 p.m.
- Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule.
Customers are urged to take public transportation to and from Fourth of July events and advised to check T-Alerts and mbta.com for the most up-to-date service information during the holiday.
