Five Things You Need to Know Today, Feb. 8

Snow flurries, historical photographs and District 7 special election.

Today is Tuesday, February 8. Here are five things you need to know:

1. More snow is expected this morning to accompany your morning commute, but forecasts are predicting minimal accumulation. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-30s with clear skies in the late afternoon/evening.

2. Interested in local history? The Boston Public Library recently added dozens of historic photographs of the South End to its flickr account from its pictorial archive. 3. Chief U.S. District Court Judge Mark Wolf said that next week’s special primary election to replace former Councilor Chuck Turner should proceed in order to ensure that District 7 residents are represented on the Council without unnecessary delay.

“Any preliminary injunction would only postpone the elections about seven weeks,” he wrote in a decision Monday morning. “Doing so would not be in the public interest.”

Wolf delayed making a decision as to whether the City Council acted illegally in ousting Turner, referring several questions to the Supreme Judicial Court. Regardless of Wolf’s decision, Turner will not be eligible to resume his seat on the Council after being and sentenced to three years in prison.
