2-Alarm Fire Breaks Out In Stoneham Attic

STONEHAM, MA — A two-alarm fire was brought under control in an attic on Country Club Road Tuesday night.

Firefighters were called to the home around 5:20 p.m. and found smoke showing from the attic. Everyone inside was able to safely evacuate before first responders arrived, the fire department said.

Duct work prevented firefighters' hose streams from reaching the fire. Firefighters had to access the fire through the ceiling from the second floor and added a second alarm for more manpower, the department said.

The fire was brought under control by 6:15 p.m. The Woburn, Melrose, Wakefield, Reading, Winchester and Saugus fire departments assisted at the scene. The Malden, Medford and Burlington fire departments provided station coverage.

"I'd like to thank all responding Stoneham firefighters and our neighboring fire departments who came to assist us in putting out the fire," Fire Chief Matthew Grafton said. "Their quick response allowed us to contain the fire and prevent further damage from occurring."

Investigators believe the fire was unintentional. The home is temporarily uninhabitable.
