Brush Fire Burns Acres Of The Middlesex Fells Reservation

STONEHAM, MA — The cause of a brush fire that burned four acres of the Middlesex Fells Reservation Thursday afternoon is under investigation, the Stoneham Fire Department wrote in a news release.

Officials began receiving reports of smoke in the area of Executive Drive and the Middlesex Fells Reservation around 3 p.m. before they arrived to find several separate fires burning, according to the release.

Since there are no hydrants in the area, firefighters had to extend hose lines a significant distance in the forest and water was shuttled to the scene, officials said.

The fires were knocked down by about 6:30 p.m., though companies remained at the scene to continue wetting the area, according to officials.

There were no reported injuries.
