Day Campaigns With Integrity, Class and Honesty
In a Letter to the Editor, resident says she is turned off by Caroline Colarusso's negativity.

A Letter to the Editor from Lydia Wise:
In the past two weeks my mailbox has been overflowing with countless mailings from Mrs. Colarusso’s run for office. I am stunned by the negativity and aggressiveness of unfair claims about State Rep, Michael Day. I know both candidates want to win, but her dishonest tactics are really concerning me. The content of both her mailings and her candidate video appears more like playground behavior than a serious candidate who is running for an important role. In my opinion her mailings look bad, sound bad, and deeply cheapen her run for office instead of reflect what she might do differently.
I did vote for Day two times and although I am not at all on the fence about his strength, effectiveness and loyalty as my State Rep, I am certainly turned off by Colarusso’s current smearing campaign and the lies that my mailbox is toppling over from.

In particular, a recent claim that really struck me was one accusing Rep Day of giving himself a 40% raise. These “facts” are grossly misleading to make Day look distrustful, when in fact, her claims are hugely inaccurate and unfair. I understand that Rep Day received a statutory expense raise of 11% along with all legislators. That brought Michael Day’s taxable income up by $7800 which is a far cry from what his taxable
income would be at the 40% increase that his opponent claimed he took for himself. I don’t appreciate, value, or trust when a candidate lies to get ahead while making questionable accusations that instead spotlight her own game playing to make strides.
The lack of scruples that I am observing from her “camp,” are only cementing my support of Michael Day for a third term. Enough of this nonsense. We only tend to fight dirty when we are losing footing.

Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated example of dishonesty. Last year, Mrs. Colarusso wrongfully claimed that the Healthy Youth Act, which Representative Day cosponsored, contained language encouraging school children to use Saran Wrap for birth control. This is just insane and I cannot fathom how anyone would allow this to be printed and stuffed in our mailboxes. In addition, I recall in a 2016 ad, the Colarusso campaign
disfigured Representative Day’s face in a really unkind way as she falsely claimed that Day did not hold office hours. I know this is also false because I personally chatted with Rep Day during office hours. Again, why go so low with manipulating a picture of her opponent? This pattern of bashing her opponent with untruths, reassures me that I know the type of character I value in an important office such as State Rep.
Fortunately for me, our actual State Representative chooses to rise above the politics of destruction that Mrs. Colarusso seems to relish. Representative Day campaigns the same way he governs: with integrity, class and honesty. I am voting to re-elect him for a number of reasons, but one of them is because I want to be proud of who is representing my community at the State House.
