Fire Reignites At Stoneham Home Destroyed By Blaze

A second fire broke out a day after a resident was rescued from the Main Street home Thursday morning, Stoneham Fire said.

STONEHAM, MA — A fire reignited early Friday morning at a Stoneham home that was destroyed by a blaze Thursday, the Stoneham Fire Department wrote in a news release Friday.

After a resident was rescued from the Main Street home during the initial fire Thursday morning, a firefighter remained at the home fire watch until the early afternoon, according to the department. The department added that at the time, firefighters detected no signs of continuing smoldering in the building.

But at 4:45 the next morning, Stoneham Fire Department dispatchers received a 911 call reporting another fire in the home, the department said. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire coming from the home's remains, brining the second fire under control around 8 a.m.

No injuries were reported and what was remaining of the home was torn down and flooded with water to prevent additional flare-up, according to the department.

"It is believed that excessive clutter inside the home may have contributed to the rekindle by hiding hot spots that later rekindled," Stoneham Fire wrote in the news release. An investigation is underway.
