Bystanders informed Stoneham first responders of multiple explosions inside a manhole near Sal's Pizza and Subway on Main Street at approximately 7:30 p.m. According to scanner reports, NStar was on the scene and addressing the incident at approximately 8:10 p.m., with reports of power outages in the area, and the manhole sealed shortly afterward. As of approximately 8:45 p.m., NStar reports just over 1,057 customers without power in Stoneham, although Fire Department officials indicate the problem is in the process of being solved. No further information was immediately available on the cause of the incident.
