Report Of Gas Odor Prompts Evacuation At Stoneham Building
Firefighters found no gas or odor after a search of the building, according to Fire Chief Matt Grafton.
STONEHAM, MA — Emergency crews evacuated a building on Montvale Avenue in Stoneham on Friday following reports of a gas odor, according to Stoneham Fire Chief Matt Grafton.
Crews ultimately found no gas or other odors, though, and reopened the building.
The incident took place at the Montvale Medical Center at 88 Montvale Ave., according to Grafton. The site contains various medical offices and sits close to I-93 in Stoneham.

Crews heard reports around 10:45 a.m. of a gas odor, Grafton said. They responded and began evacuating the building as crews searched for a source of the smell.
Grafton said crews used gas detection meters but found no gas.

Crews eventually cleared the building and allowed normal business to resume.
Melrose and Reading fire departments provided mutual aid to Stoneham to handle a pair of calls in town while local crews were busy on Montvale Avenue, according to Grafton.
