Stoneham Cancels Cops And Kids Fishing Derby
The annual event, which is held on the second Saturday in June, has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
STONEHAM, MA — The annual Cops and Kids Fishing Derby, scheduled for June 13, is canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Police Chief James McIntyre announced Friday.
The Stoneham Police Department has hosted the annual event since 1999 on the second Saturday in June, in collaboration with the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Massachusetts Anglers Education Program.
"The Cops and Kids Fishing Derby is an event our community and officers look forward to every summer," McIntyre said. "While it is unfortunate to announce this decision, we believe it is best for the health and safety of Stoneham residents while the COVID-19 situation remains fluid."
