Face masks or cloth face coverings must now be worn in public, per a May 1 order by Gov. Charlie Baker. The order requires anyone in public unable to remain socially distant, a minimum of six feet away from others, to wear a face covering. This order applies to both indoor and outdoor spaces.
Masks should not be worn by young children under the age of 2, persons with difficulty breathing, or those who are unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) still advises those wearing a face covering to practice social distancing in public when possible, as the coronavirus is believed to be transmitted through respiratory droplets produced when someone with the virus talks, sneezes or coughs.
