STONEHAM, MA — A police officer is recovering after being attacked by a dog when responding to a call Sunday morning.

Animal Control said an officer was responding to a routine call when he was attacked after the homeowner opened the door.

The officer received 30 stitches to his face and head.

"A reminder to residents: If Police, Fire, or medical personnel respond to your residence, please make sure your dog is secured in a room," Animal Control said in a Facebook post.
