28 Stoughton High School Students Earn AP Scholar Awards

Nearly 30 students at Stoughton High School have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP exams, Stoughton school officials said.

The awards are apart of The College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) program, which “provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while in high school and to earn college credit, advanced placement or both for successful performance on the AP exams.”

More than 3,600 colleges and universities receive AP schools, with most four-year colleges in the United States providing credit and/or advanced placement for qualifying exam scores. About 22 percent of the 2.2 million students who take the exams reportedly performed at a “sufficiently high level” to also earn an AP scholar award, according to the announcement by Stoughton school officials.

The following highlights how the Stoughton High School students were recognized:

Kevin J. McDonald qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average score of 4 or higher on a five-point scale on all AP exams taken, as well as scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of the exams.

Alex DeNapoli, Kevin J. McDonald and Robert Mone qualified for the AP Scholar and Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, as well as scores of 3 or higher on five or more of the exams.

Tess Connor, Peter da Silva, Kaitlin Elwood, Monica Peterson, Abigail Roane Emma Sinkus, Madeline Sinkus and Joseph Souto qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, as well as scores of 3 or higher on four or more of the exams.

The following 15 students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP exams with scores of 3 or higher:

  • Jacob Finer
  • Darlene Irons
  • Kassandra Melo
  • Ashley Merola
  • Kristina Nguyen
  • Corey Shore
  • Julia Sjoquist

  • Michaela Sullivan
  • Arden Tran
  • Timothy Tullis, Jr.

Moreover, seven of this year’s award recipients from Stoughton High School were juniors, and have at least one more year in which to complete college-level work and possibly earn a higher-level AP Scholar Award, school officials said. The following students are juniors at SHS:
