• Man charged in fatal Stoughton crash has history of driving infractions, prosecutors say (nbcboston.com) — A Brockton man is being held on $100,000 bail after prosecutors say he caused a deadly crash at Pleasant and Prospect streets in Stoughton while fleeing a traffic stop, killing 84-year-old resident John G. Smith and seriously injuring his wife. Ortiz faces motor vehicle homicide and several related charges, and is barred from driving while the case proceeds. State and Stoughton police continue to investigate the crash circumstances.
   

• POST Commission decertifies former Stoughton police officer tied to Sandra Birchmore case (nbcboston.com) — State police overseers have permanently decertified former Stoughton deputy police chief Robert Devine, blocking him from future law enforcement work in Massachusetts after finding a pattern of unprofessional conduct. The decision stems from his role in the broader Sandra Birchmore scandal involving Stoughton officers, though he is not charged in her death. Devine, now an attorney, has 30 days to appeal as he fights to clear his name.
