1. Stoughton Gets $175K Towards Possible Purchase of Train Station in State's Transportation Bond Bill

If the town decides to purchase the , which has recently been put up for sale by the MBTA, it will receive some financial assistance from the state.
Governor Deval Patrick signed the $1.5 billion transportation bond bill on Thursday, August 9, which funds a variety of road, bridge and rail projects across the state.

This includes $175,000 in matching grant funds to the Town of Stoughton for the , if the town decides it would like to retain control of the property.
In essence, the bill gives Stoughton the right of first refusal for the 6,100-square foot property, which also includes 30 adjacent parking spaces.

2. Share a Haircut
The Stoughton Hair Cuttery’s two-week “Share A Haircut” program is running from August 1-15.
During this time, every time a child (18 years old or younger) receives a haircut at any of the Hair Cuttery salons in New England, including the salon in Stoughton, a free hair cut will be donated to a disadvantaged child in the community.
In Stoughton, Hair Cuttery is partnering with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families to distribute the haircuts.

3. Tickets Sold Out for Ice Cream Social
Tickets for the annual ice cream social at the , which will be held Thursday, August 23 at 12:30 p.m., have already sold out according to the town' website.

4. Bigger, Faster, Stronger
The Stoughton High Athletic Department (with help from the Prone Family Foundation) will be offering its athletes structured and supervised "Bigger Faster Stronger" workouts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday over the course of the summer as students prepare for the fall sports season and .
Students will have the option to attend workouts in the recently renovated weightlifting room on Monday and Wednesdays from 8-10 a.m. and 10-12 p.m., as well as 4-6 p.m. for the students that have to work during the day. The facility will be open from 8-10 a.m. and 10-12 p.m. on Fridays.

5. Student Tours of Stoughton High
Student representatives from the Student Council and the National Honor Society will be providing tours to all new and incoming students on Tuesdays in August from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., according to the SHS website. No appointments are necessary.
The first day of the 2012-2013 school year in Stoughton for students in grades 1-12 is Wednesday, September 5, 2012 (after Labor Day). Teachers (Unit A) and nurses report the day before, September 4. Kindergarten starts September 7.
