Outdoors? Indoors? Status of Thursday's Stoughton High Graduation Location Still Up in the Air

The following is an email sent by Stoughton High Principal Matt Colantonio late Wednesday afternoon, June 6. Graduation is Thursday, June 7 at 5:30 p.m.

Dear Class of 2012 Graduates and Families,

As of right now, the weather forecast for tomorrow's Graduation is too close for me to call either indoors or outdoors.

Because the weather may force us to move the ceremony into the auditorium, I just wanted to prepare everyone for that possibility.

First, an indoor graduation is not open to the public. All graduates get two tickets attached to their report cards tomorrow at the mandatory rehearsal at 1 p.m.

This means each graduate will only be allowed to bring two guests (which is why the decision to move inside is a difficult one). We also have a handful of extra tickets, but not enough to give a third to each graduate. So, we will distribute the extra tickets at the rehearsal as well in as equitable a manner as we can. We will take the names of all graduates who would like a third ticket and randomly draw the names until the tickets are gone.

This is not an ideal situation but our seating capacity is limited, and I felt this would be as reasonable an approach to distributing the extra tickets as we could offer.

Also, please keep in mind that we are unable to air the ceremony in our building live, so folks who wish to see it live will need to do so from their own homes on local cable.

These are the issues when moving the Graduation inside, and that is why I am not going to do that unless I feel it is absolutely necessary.

As soon as I make the official call (at some point tomorrow morning), I will announce it on cable, this website, and via the One-Call system I use regularly. Thank You.
