The following is a release from Solutions at Work:
As a Cambridge-based 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization, Solutions at Work’s mission is to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty. Since its founding in 1989, the organization has provided homeless and low-income people with resources, opportunities, and partners that are needed to achieve self-sufficiency. Recently, a new generation of community-like-minded professionals in their 20’s and 30’s has joined the cause against homelessness and poverty. Through this group of people, Solutions at Work’s Young Professionals Board (YPB) was born.
“Solutions at Work's new Young Professionals Board members are bringing fresh ideas and youthful energy to our efforts to end homelessness,” said Lauren Corduck, executive director for Solutions at Work.
“The YPB was completely the idea of Lauren Corduck but was quickly embraced by the entire Board of Directors,” according to Solutions at Work’s Board Chair Ken Sanginario. “Personally, I see this as a tremendous opportunity for both the organization and the young professionals. The organization will benefit by being able to tap into a younger generation to create awareness and generate support in ways that the full Board could never conceive, and also by being able to develop future board members so that the organization can continue to grow and evolve.”
The YPB is charged with engaging more young people in the efforts to fight homelessness. Through the support of Solutions at Work’s Board of Directors and staff, the YPB has been working on developing ways to involve friends, colleagues, and the community in the work of the organization.
“This mission is so meaningful to me, because I believe that every person deserves the chance to experience respect and success in their lives, a feeling of belonging, and a connection to the community they are living in. Once you see the smiles on the faces of the families and children Solutions serves and the volunteers that make it happen, you can't help but become driven to help this organization succeed,” said YPB President Danielle Marquis.
Sanginario sees this as a model that every charitable organization should adopt.
“The young professionals get the experience of giving back to their communities and making an impactful difference in the lives of people who truly need their help, and also building skills to make more valuable employees in their companies, and valuable full board candidates in the future, either with Solutions at Work or with other charitable organizations.”
Members of the YPB include:
- Danielle Marquis, of Boston, Senior Business Analyst - Iron Mountain
- Kevin Sanginario, of Milton, Manager, State Government Affairs - Partners HealthCare System
- Nadja Stratton, of Boston, Property and Marketing Manager/HR Administrator - Transatlantic Investment Management
- Richard Stratton, of Boston, Director - Strive Badge
- Christopher Vasquez, of Stoughton, Senior Tax Analyst - Old Mutual
- Bobby Zammuto, of Allston, Business Development Manager - NetSuite
Solutions at Work’s Executive Director, Lauren Corduck, is thrilled with the new ideas and youthful energy that these young professionals bring to YPB.
“They are a talented, enthusiastic, fun bunch of people who are already creating a buzz about Solutions at Work in the 20 and 30-something set. They are increasing the sustainability of the organization by developing a pipeline of future Solutions at Work leaders and supporters,” Corduck said.
The Young Professionals Board will host its First Annual Young Professionals Boat Cruise aboard a Charles Riverboat Company vessel on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. (boarding time 6:45 p.m.). “The aim of the upcoming Young Professionals Boat Cruise is to introduce like-minded young professionals in the Boston area to the incredible work Solutions at Work is performing each and every day. We hope to inspire our peers to learn more about the organization, extend a hand by volunteering themselves, or spreading the values the organization embodies to their networks and businesses,” Marquis said.
