Creepy Encounter At Target Has Stoughton Police Warning Residents

Police are stepping up patrols after a woman was approached outside of Target Sunday night.

The woman says she felt uncomfortable with the situation and decided to call the police, making note of his description - a white man in his 50's or 60's and driving a white Jeep Patriot.

STOUGHTON, MA — The Stoughton police department issued a statement to residents warning them of a disturbing incident that took place outside of Target Sunday night.

A woman was approached outside of Target in the parking lot by a man who said her car was leaking oil around 4:45 p.m., police say.

The woman told police she had not been in the parking space long enough for a noticeable fluid leak and it had just gotten dark outside. She told police the man then got out of his car and approached her, attempting to get her attention.

An investigation by police found that similar calls in surrounding towns involving a white Jeep Patriot were also made recently.

Stoughton police are urging residents who find themselves in similar situations to follow their gut and call the police. Police say the woman outside of Target did not feel safe, so she kept a safe distance and gave a description of the approacher.

Police say they will be assigning directed patrols to all of the local shopping areas and will continue to work to investigate the situation.
