Election Papers Due Today in Stoughton
People interested in running in local elections have to submit nomination papers by 5 p.m. today

Election time is just around the corner.
Residents interested in running for boards and committees have to submit nomination papers by 5 p.m. today.
As of yesterday morning, one person had returned papers for an open seat on the Board of Selectmen and four residents returned papers for seats on the School Committee.

There is one three-year selectman seat available. Thomas Recupero’s term ends in April.
However, as of Monday, he was the only person to return nomination papers to the town clerk.

Recupero is running for his second term after he won in an uncontested race in 2013.
There are two three-year seats available on the School Committee. Joyce Husseini is not seeking re-election, and Anita Hill’s term will expire in April.
Papers became available Oct. 1 and signify an intent to run for office. To actually appear on the ballot, people must gather 100 valid signatures from registered voters.
Currently, there would be no preliminary election in Stougthon. There has to be more than three candidates for one seat for a preliminary election to be necessary. If necessary, a preliminary election would be held Feb. 16.
The annual town election is slated for April 5.
Residents who are interested in voting in the local election need to register by March 16.
