Gallery: Wiffle Ball Tournament Rocks Stoughton

More than 50 teams took part in Wiffle Rock's wiffle ball tournament this past weekend, with a crowd of more than 300 gathering at the to take part in the popular backyard game.
has hosted a tournament in Stoughton since 2007, with this year's taking place June 23 and 24. Wiffle Rock has been organizing tournaments for more than 20 years and has the distinction of hosting the largest wiffle ball tournament in the U.S., according to its website.
The West School fields, converted into one large backyard, had dozens of wiffle ball games going on at once. The tournament draws players from around the area, with participants ranging in age from preteens to men in their fifties.

"It's like a big backyard barbecue," said the man behind Wiffle Rock, Jeff Hammond.
Teams consist of 2-5 players with a skill level termed "backyard ability," according to the Wiffle Rock website.

"There's no such thing as a professional wiffle ball player," Hammond notes.
Hammond also uses these tournaments as an effort to give back to the local community. Each player was asked to bring a can of food to donate to the Stoughton food pantries.
