Lincoln-Sudbury School Committee To Pick New Member After Chair's Resignation
Lincoln resident Heather Cowap stepped down effective July 1. The committee will pick her replacement in the coming weeks.

SUDBURY, MA — The Lincoln-Sudbury School Committee has started the process of searching for a new member after committee chair Heather Cowap resigned recently.
Cowap, a Lincoln resident first elected to her seat in 2021, announced her resignation in June because she is moving out of the district. Her resignation was effective July 1.
Cowap's resignation triggers a multipart process to find her replacement. Through Aug. 4, the committee will accept applications from either Sudbury or Lincoln residents who want to serve in the role.

After the application deadline, the remaining school committee members along with Sudbury Select Board Chair Janie Dretler and Lincoln Select Board Chair Jim Hutchinson will meet to interview and select a replacement. That meeting is scheduled for Aug. 10.
Lincoln-Sudbury School Committee Vice Chair Kevin Matthews said the relatively quick selection process allows a new member to start before the new school year alongside Superintendent Andrew Stephens, who took over for Bella Wong on July 1.

"The committee is thankful for Heather's service, and we look optimistically toward the future to welcome a new committee member, and start our new year with our new superintendent," Matthews said.
The new interim committee member will serve the remainder of Cowap's term, which expires in March 2024. The interim member will be able to run for a full term in 2024. Qualified candidates can apply for the vacancy here.
