SUDBURY, MA — Plans for the next phase of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail in Sudbury will be the subject of an upcoming public forum, with officials on hand to answer questions about the design and timing of the project.

Construction is about 75 percent complete on Phase 2D of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail in Sudbury, which runs from the Concord line to near Route 20. The next section — Phase 3 — will continue the trail to the Framingham line.

MassDOT in February completed work on the 25 percent design plans for Phase 3 — a key step before construction. The April 23 forum will begin with a question-and-answer section followed by a formal presentation on the Phase 3 plans.

One key part of the planning process will be how the trail crosses Route 20. The 25 percent design plans call for a stamped concrete crossing with a flashing pedestrian beacon. The public will also be able to review other aspects of the design, like wayfinding signs, benches and rest areas. You can see the 25 percent design plans for Phase 3 here.

The April 23 meeting will be held at the Goodnow Library beginning at 6:30 p.m., but the meeting will also be available via Zoom.
