SUDBURY, MA — A town-sponsored taxi and rideshare program may soon get a needed cash infusion from the state.

The state fiscal 2024 budget, which emerged from a joint House and Senate conference committee Sunday night, includes a $125,000 line item for the GoSudbury! ride program.

The town had to put restrictions on the program early in 2023 due to a funding shortfall. Town Meeting in May approved $150,000 for the program to continue in the 2024 fiscal year, which began on July 1.

The program provides free yellow cab rides within 25 miles of town, plus Uber rides with co-pays starting at $3 for trips under five miles. In May, the town began offering non-emergency medical rides via Annex Transit, which handles medical rides that cab companies can't.

Go Sudbury! has been in operation since 2020 using a combination of state and town-appropriated funds. Although Sudbury is part of the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority service area, no fixed bus routes pass through Sudbury. MWRTA does offer other services in Sudbury, including a door-to-door van service for certain residents.
