Many in Sudbury may have noticed the cute little boutique that popped up on Boston Post Road in December. But most probably don’t know this store is owner Dava Muramatsu’s second chance.
The store, named Matsu after its owner, is Muramatsu’s second. She once owned another boutique on Newbury Street in Boston that shut down in 2011.

Muramatsu opened that store in the early 1980s and it was going strong until Boston started tearing up Newbury Street and plopped a port-a-potty in front of her high-end boutique, according to the Worcester Business Journal.
It’s been three years since her first shop closed, but now Muramatsu is giving it another try with Matsu in Sudbury. And she seems to be doing well.

Matsu has been featured in The Boston Globe and recently landed an article in Boston Magazine’s Life and Style section.
Muramatsu and her store are all about style, and helping well-off women to amp up their wardrobes.
The store-owner told the Worcester Business Journal that many “middle-aged women in her suburban target market have forgotten how to dress, and she hopes to remind them how to think outside the box, and to stop wearing yoga pants everywhere they go.”
But Matsu offers more than just a selection of stylish clothing. The store also specializes in designer homeware and jewelry from Muramatsu’s handmade line Nymph.
Long-time customers recommend Matsu not only for its products, but also for the experience Muramatsu gives each customer.
“Dava is able to see people for their true selves, and then translate that into a piece of jewelry or a home good,” Diane Malcolmson, who’s been a Muramatsu customer for more than 15 years, told Boston Magazine. “She takes the time to figure out what you need. And that’s very unique.”
