UPDATE: Police Clear Swampscott High School After Bomb Threat

Students were dismissed early as local and state law enforcement conducted the necessary searches.

Update:

Swampscott police issued an “all clear” for Swampscott High School about two hours after a bomb threat was called in to the school’s main office Tuesday morning.

According to a statement from Interim Principal Frank Kowalski, a call came into the high school’s main office at 11:45 a.m. of a recorded bomb threat. The call turned out to be one of 18 similar threats made to other schools in Massachusetts Tuesday.

By 12:30 p.m., all staff and students had evacuated the building, with students being dismissed to go home. It is an exam week at Swampscott High School, and the school day was already scheduled to end at 1:30 p.m.

Swampscott Police Lt. Paul Bartram said law enforcement conducted a full sweep of the school, but found nothing.

The Swampscott Fire Department, State Police Bomb Squad, Environmental Police, North Andover Police Department (NEMLEC) and the State Police Canine Unit also responded, according to Kowalski’s statement.

All Tuesday evening sports will continue as scheduled.

Everyone was evacuated from Swampscott High School Tuesday after a bomb threat was called in at 11:44 a.m.

Swampscott police said a sweep was immediately conducted at the school and nothing was found, but the building had not yet reopened as of about 12:45 p.m. Police did say they anticipate the building reopening shortly.

No other schools in town have received threats, according to police, but multiple schools throughout Massachusetts have received similar threats today.

Swampscott High students began their mid-terms Tuesday. Students were only required to be at school for the time of their exams and all exam periods were scheduled to end at 1:30 p.m. High school students were dismissed following the threat, and it is unclear at this time how the situation will affect the exam schedule.
