Check Your Voter Registration Status Ahead of the Presidential Primary
The Town of Swampscott is reminding residents that they have until Feb. 10, 2016 to change their political party, should they so choose.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA - 2016 will be a big year for elections in the United States. It’s a presidential election year and that means it’s also a presidential primary year.
The presidential primary will be held on March 1, 2016, and the Town of Swampscott is reminding voters that their political affiliation will affect for whom they can vote in that March primary.
There are four political parties in Massachusetts and your voter registration card notes whether you are enrolled in any of those four with the following letter designations:

- D - Democratic Party
- R - Republican Party
- J - Green Rainbow Party
- CC - United Independent Party
If your card lists any of those designations, you will only be allowed to vote for the presidential primary candidate affiliated with that party on March 6, 2016.
If you are unenrolled (designated by a “U” on your voter ID card) or a member of a Political Designation (which is noted by other letter codes), you will be permitted to vote for any candidate in the March 1 primary.

There is still time to change your political party affiliation ahead of the primary, but you must do it on or before Feb. 10, 2016. To change your party, simply file a new voter registration form in person, via mail or online at www.registertovoteMA.com.
