Extreme Heat: Swampscott Library Open As Cooling Center

The Swampscott Public Library will be open as a cooling center until 7 p.m. Thursday and 4 p.m. on Friday.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA —Swampscott residents who are in need of a place to cool down amid this week's extreme heat are invited to go to the Swampscott Public Library.

The library will be open until 7 p.m. on Thursday and 4 pm. on Friday. It will open at 9 a.m. each morning.

Water and air conditioning will be available.

Those headed to the library are reminded that as of Monday masks are once again required inside all Swampscott municipal buildings — which includes the library.

With temperatures expected in the high 90s and the heat index over 100 degrees through at least Friday, residents are advised to avoid strenuous activity, wear a hat wide enough to protect their face from the sun, wear lightweight, loose, light=colored clothing and drink plenty of water.
