Letter to the Editor: Strauss Earns Re-Election Vote
The following letter to the editor was submitted by Maureen Thomsen.

To the Editor:
I am writing this letter to publicly thank Matt Strauss for serving on Swampscott’s Board of Selectmen for six years, and to urge voters to support his bid for re-election so that he may help guide several town projects to completion.
Matt’s professionalism is apparent in all public dealings, and his questions and comments show a high level of interest and research on topics that come before the board. Whether residents are seeking information as citizens of the town, or seeking action from him as a committee member or simply wishing to communicate a concern, Matt has always been kind, respectful and sincere in listening to all sides of an issue. As an experienced board member, he takes into account the context of each issue, the direct impact to the town and citizens, and the financial impact on our property taxes.
With thanks to Matt’s leadership and advocacy on the Board, Swampscott’s tax rate dropped from $18.84 to $17.15 per thousand; the consolidation of the town and school’s business office has been substantially completed; and several town properties are being converted into private and public use. Matt’s experience and institutional knowledge at this important juncture will absolutely be of great importance in ensuring that the transition of converting these properties is completed while keeping the concerns of Swampscott’s residents at the forefront. We deserve nothing less.
