Man Dies After Swampscott Car Accident
John A. Lofgren, of Lynn, was hit crossing the street in front of St. John's Church on Humphrey Street.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA – John A. Lofgren was hit by a car while leaving morning Mass earlier this month in Swampscott. Last week, he was taken off life support and passed away.
Lofgren, 73, of Lynn, was hit while crossing Humphrey Street in front of St. John's Church by a 60-year-old Nahant woman. The accident is under investigation by state police and Swampscott Officer Candace Doyle, and no charges have been filed.
According to his obituary, Lofgren's passion was to help people. He was active with the AIDS action committee in the 1980s, and worked as a prison guard and counselor. He also tried to help people and families struggling with the opioid crisis.
