Questions Remain as Swampscott Launches Search for New High School Principal

Swampscott High School's principal abruptly resigned last week; now the district is searching for the school's next head administrator.

It’s been just over two weeks since Swampscott High School Principal Edward Rozmiarek was placed on administrative leave, and about one week since he subsequently resigned amid allegations of “inappropriate” conduct on his school-issued computer.

Now Swampscott Public Schools is on the hunt for the high school’s third head administrator since 2013.

Mystery still surrounds the details of Rozmiarek’s sudden resignation. Superintendent Pamela Angelakis told parents and members of the media that it had come to her attention that Rozmiarek had engaged in “inappropriate” conduct on his school computer, but that no one else -- either student or staff -- was involved in the situation. The Beverly Police Department confirmed that it assisted when Massachusetts State Police visited Rozmiarek’s Beverly home the same day his leave was announced, but could provide no further details.

As of last week, an Essex County District Attorney’s office spokesperson said she could neither confirm nor deny that Rozmiarek was under investigation, but that she was not aware of anyone by that name having been arrested.

So with many questions left unanswered, the district is forging ahead with the hiring process for the next principal of Swampscott High School.
