The following is an excerpt from the Swampscott Police log:

Tuesday, Aug. 30

  • At 3:55 p.m. a resident of Stanwood Road told police the night before, she had received a package on her front steps. Police opened the package and found a few dolls and a note not addressed to anyone in particular.

  • At 3:55 p.m. police and fire responded to Essex Street for a car fire. The fire was extinguished.
  • A home break-in was reported on Eastern Avenue at 3:58 p.m.
  • At 5:02 p.m. a resident reported a man walking in his backyard on Mountwood Road. The man was with the high school football team, doing a fundraiser door-to-door.
  • An elderly man making "strange gestures" to young children on Suffolk Avenue was reported at 7:39 p.m. Police did not locate the man.

Thursday, Sept. 1

  • A resident reported their car was broken into while parked in parking lot at 9:59 a.m.
  • At 10:54 p.m. a neighbor complained about a loud party on Ryan Place.

Friday, Sept. 2

  • A resident who was with his children at reported while there, his baby carriage was taken.
  • At 5:39 p.m. a truck pulled over on New Ocean Street on the side of the road with a man either sleeping or passed. The man was napping.

Saturday, Sept. 3

  • At 11:36 a.m. the Harbormaster reported a seal pup on . The Aquarium was notified.
  • At 8:25 p.m. fireworks were reported on .

Sunday, Sept. 4

  • Police found a microwave and stove curbside at 1:53 a.m. on Columbia Street. The DPW was notified.
  • At 1:26 p.m. a person told police there was a young child standing in front of a home at Norfolk and Stetson avenues holding a suitcase. The person told police the child looked to be about 5-years-old. Police could not locate the child.
  • At 8:49 p.m. a man passed out on the hood of a car on Cherry Street was placed into protective custody.

Monday, Sept. 5

  • A home break-in was reported on Connelly Avenue at 8:47 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 6

  • One person was taken to the hospital after a car crash on Essex Street at 7:27 a.m.

The following people were arrested:

  • Valter Mario Cardoso, 42, 30 Surfside Road, Lynn, was arrested and charged with marked lanes violation and driving without a license.
  • Giancarlos Santana, 27, 73 Lawton Ave., Lynn, was arrested and charged with driving after license suspension.
