Swampscott February Snow Emergency Parking Ban Declared
The ban is set to begin at midnight Thursday night and extend until 6 a.m. on Saturday.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — A 30-hour snow emergency park ban is set to begin in Swampscott at midnight Thursday night with up to 12 inches of snow forecast for the North Shore on Friday.
All vehicles must be removed from town public streets or risk being ticketed and towed.
The parking ban is set to extend until 6 a.m. on Saturday unless conditions warrant otherwise.

Swampscott officials said that all town offices, the Senior Center and the Swampscott Public Library will also be closed on Friday.
Trash and recycling pickup delays will be extended through next week. Pickup was already on a one-day delay this week because of the Monday holiday. There will be no trash pickup on Friday. Those who typically have trash pickup on Thursday will now have trash pickup on Saturday. Those who typically have trash pickup on Friday will now have pickup on Monday. There is no trash pickup on Sunday.

Because of the expected storm, pickup will again be delayed one day throughout next week.
A winter storm warning was issued everywhere but the South Shore and Cape Cod, which are under a winter storm watch, from 12 a.m. Friday to 12 a.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service says snow will start falling before dawn on Friday, gathering 1-2 inches per hour during the morning commute.
The latest forecasts from Thursday morning call for 8-12 inches of snow north of the Mass Pike, while precipitation will change to the wintry mix south of the highway.
While the snow will surely be a shock coming less than 48 hours after record-high temperatures soared to nearly 70 degrees on the North Shore, school vacation week will temper some of the upheavals that go along with a significant winter storm.
