Swampscott Motorcycle Accident Leaves 2 With Severe Injuries

Swampscott Police said it appears a car went into the opposite lane of traffic, striking a motorcyclist and his passenger.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA – After a car allegedly drove into the opposite lane of traffic on Humphrey Street, striking a motorcyclist, both the driver and passenger on the motorcycle were reported to have severe leg injuries.

Police responded to Humphrey Street near Salem Street on Tuesday around 2:30 p.m., and found the 51-year-old male driver and 40-year-old female passenger with leg injuries. A neighbor applied a tourniquet to the man's leg to help stop the bleeding, according to Swampscott Police.

The man was Med flighted to Tufts Medical Center in Boston, and the female passenger was driven by ambulance to Mass General Hospital in Boston. The female driver of the car was taken to Salem Hospital to be checked for injuries.

No charges have been filed against the female operator of the car. The accident is under investigation by the Swampscott Police Accident Reconstruction Team, the Mass State Police Reconstruction Team, and Officer Candace Doyle.
