Swampscott Principal Resigns; 'Inappropriate' Conduct on School Computers Alleged

UPDATED: Edward Rozmiarek has been on administrative leave since Dec. 7.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA - Swampscott High School Principal Edward Rozmiarek resigned his position effective immediately following a week of administrative leave.

According to a Wednesday letter to parents from Swampscott Public Schools Superintendent Pamela Angelakis, she accepted Rozmiarek’s resignation after it came to her attention that Rozmiarek had engaged in conduct that Angelakis “deemed inappropriate through his school issued computer.”

Angelakis’ letter assures parents that it does not appear any students, faculty or staff of Swampscott schools were involved in the alleged activity. She added that “for various legal reasons” she was unable to provide further details on the matter at this point.

Rozmiarek was placed on leave Monday, Dec. 7 for, at that time, a “pending personnel matter,” according to Angelakis. That same day, Massachusetts State Police, assisted by members of the Beverly Police Department, visited Rozmiarek’s Beverly home, according to Beverly Police Officer Mike Boccuzzi.

Details about that visit have not been released.

Carrie Kimball-Monahan, a spokeswoman with the Essex County District Attorney’s Office, said Dec. 16 that she could neither “confirm nor deny” whether the office was engaged in an investigation involving Rozmiarek; Kimball-Monihan did say she was not aware of any arrests or charges related to that person.

Rozmiarek stepped into the principal’s role at Swampscott High in 2013. Prior to coming to Swampscott, Rozmiarek held administrative positions at Lowell High School, North Reading High School and Mansfield High School.
