Swampscott Program To Offer Lower Power Prices in 2017
The Swampscott Community Power program prices will be lower for all three program options, starting in January 2017.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA – The town's community electric aggregation program, Swampscott Community Power, will start offering lower prices in January 2017.
The program, which has been in effect since 2015, provides residents and businesses in Swampscott with a "green and predictable electric supply right," according to the Office of Community Development.
With a new contract, all three programs (standard offering, greener option, and basic option) will have smaller price tags in 2017. For program participants, the price change will affect the supplier services portion of the National Grid bill. They will be able to see a difference in bills beginning February 2017.

"This program is having a measurable and significant impact on Swampscott’s carbon footprint," said Swampscott Director of Community Development, Pete Kane. "Based on actual program electricity use through September and estimated use for October through December, Swampscott is on track to reduce its carbon footprint by more than 9,700 tons of carbon dioxide in the program’s first year. This is the equivalent of removing more than 2,000 passenger vehicles from the road for one year."
