Swampscott Resident Sworn in to Mass. Supreme Judicial Court

Scott Kafker was sworn in as an associate justice of Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court this week.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA - A Swampscott resident who served with Gov. Charlie Baker in Gov. William Weld's administration was sworn in as an associate justice of Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court in the Great Hall of the John Adams Courthouse on Nov. 14, according to Wicked Local.

Before the confirmation, Kafker spent 16 years on Massachusetts Appeals Court, to which former Gov. Paul Cellucci appointed him in 2001. For two of those 16 years, Kafker presided over the court as chief justice, a position to which Baker nominated him in 2015.

“Justice Kafker has served the people of Massachusetts with fairness and impartiality for nearly three decades and the knowledge he brought to both the Appeals Court and the Supreme Judicial Court has been invaluable,” said Baker, who swore Kafker in. “I’m honored to swear Justice Kafker in to the state’s highest court and thank the Supreme Judicial Court Nominating Committee and the Governor’s Council for their comprehensive examination and confirmation.”

Kafker was first sworn into office during a private State House ceremony Aug. 21, a little under a month after the Governor’s Council unanimously confirmed him.

“As Thanksgiving approaches, I can say with absolute assurance that there is no one more thankful, or at least no one who should be more thankful and grateful than I am today,” he told the gathered crowd. “As I look around this hall, I feel this enormous debt of gratitude to every person present.”
