Which Road in Swampscott Needs a Speed Bump?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

Swampscott, MA- Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Swampscott. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

If you’re frustrated with speeders in a certain part of Swampscott, you are in good company. We reached out to readers on Facebook, asking which local road they thought needed a speed bump. Here’s what your neighbors told us:

  • "Pleasant Street - some people fly through as they bring their kids to school or Philips playgrounds. My dog was run over by one of these crazies flying down the hill. It could have been avoided with speed bumps!"
  • "Norfolk ave. (Clarke School)"
  • "Windsor at Elwin"
  • "Dennison Ave!"
  • "Stetson Ave. Locals have started parking across from each other so cars have to slow down and take it in turns to get through."
  • " Forest Avenue"
  • "Fuller Avenue"
  • "Walker Road"
  • "Summit View Drive could use one. People often fly down this street when cutting over from Essex to Paradise."
  • "Cherry Street"
  • "Maple Ave. You have all the high school kids cutting down it, and the trucks going too fast down it. There are a lot of kids that play on our street now."
