Albert C. Sutherby, 79

Retired from G.T.E. Gov't Systems.

Mr. Albert C. Sutherby, age 79, a G.T.E. retiree,  died Monday, February 4, at the Radius Health Care Center in Roxbury, following a long illness.  He was the beloved husband for 55 years of Kathleen A. (Garvin) Sutherby, who preceded him in death one week ago, on January 27.

Albert was born in Boston, October 12, 1933, one of six children of the late Cuthbert and Elizabeth (Sheehan) Sutherby, and was raised in Somerville.  After graduating high school, he went on to earn a BSBA from Boston College.  He retired from G.T.E.’s Government Services division in 1993, after 22 years of service.  Upon his marriage to Kathleen, they moved to Reading, and eventually to Tewksbury 18 years ago.  Albert will be remembered for his all consuming devotion to the care of his wife Kathleen during her lifelong courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Mr. Sutherby was brother of the late George and Estelle Sutherby, Frank and Mary (Mooney) Sutherby of Melrose, Mary and Dan Noonan of Woburn, Gertrude Marshall of Stoneham and her husband the late John Marshall, Rita and Frank Shaughnessy of FL; and also leaves his beloved dog Brandy;  and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours Thursday, February 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, phone  (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950.  His funeral will begin Friday at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass Friday, February 8, at 10:00 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury.  Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Stoneham.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 will be appreciated. tewksburyfuneralhome.com
