LETTER: Town Government Should Do More Recycling To Save Money

Reader believes some Town Hall office practices are wasteful.

To The Editor:

I want to make a comment on recycling in the Town of Tewksbury.  Every time I pay either a tax, water, or excise tax bill I pay it in person at the Town Treasurer's Office.  In each one of these bills you receive a return envelope if you are going to mail it back.  When I go in to pay the bill I always bring the return envelopes that come in with the bills.

They are in perfectly good condition and when I attempt to give it to the clerks working for the Treasurer's Office they tell me to put them in the recycle bucket on the floor next to their windows.  I asked if they reuse them and was told no.  This is a total waste of our town money!

These envelopes are as good as new and should be recycled and used again instead of just throwing them away.

Their excuse is that they are bent and would jam up the mailing machine.

That is a big lie.  They are as good as they are when they come out of the box they take them out of.  Stop wasting Town money when we can't meet our budgets.  Thanks!
