Bar Brawl Sparks Pepper Spray For A Lowell City Councilor Hopeful

Police say they had to pepper spray and tase a candidate for City Council over the weekend after he was involved in a bar fight.

LOWELL, MA — In order to get an unruly bar patron under control, Lowell Police had to pepper spray and tase him before he could be subdued and arrested: the unruly bar patron in question was a man running for Lowell City Councilor.

Jeffrey Thomas, 45, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after the brawl at the Blue Shamrock in Lowell, according to an article first reported by The Lowell Sun.

The Sun says he was arraigned on the charges Monday morning and released on personal recognizance.

According to The Sun, Thomas planned to run for the new City Council District 5 in South Lowell but had not completed his requirement to obtain 150 certified signatures.

They said he also ran for City Councilor unsuccessfully two years ago.
