Girls hockey stays in playoff hunt with win over Algonquin/Hudson.

In each of the last two years, Tewksbury has gotten off to a very slow start, only to pull things together and make the State Tournament. The same thing seems to be happening again.

On Friday, the Redmen beat up on an overmatched Haverhill team, 56-8, to improve to 6-8 on the season. The game was over at halftime, as Tewksbury led, 29-3.

Junior Olivia Gallella dropped in a game-high 13 points to pace the Redmen attack. Center Chelsee Porcaro added eight points and owned the paint.

Girls Hockey

Tewksbury/Methuen 4, Algonquin/Hudson 4

Speaking of staying in the playoff hunt, Tewksbury/Methuen picked up a huge win, 4-3, over Algonquin/Hudson. With the victory, the Red Rangers improved to 5-6-2.

Sophomore sniper Amanda Conway continued her remarkable season, scoring goals 28, 29 and 30 on the season to lead the Red Rangers. Freshman Lefebve also scored for the winners. Riley Cote added three assists.

Taylor Lirakis picked up the win in net with 37 saves.

Boys Basketball

Haverhill 64, Tewksbury 58

The Redmen have had some gut-wrenching losses recently and this was another. Tewksbury stayed with the Hillies throughout and got as close as a single point in the final few minutes of regulation.

Sophomore guard Alex DiRocco had an incredible night from the field with a career-best 27 points, but its wasn't enough, as Tewksbury dropped to 5-10. The Redmen trailed by only one with 3:30 to play.

Kevin Dick added 13 points and freshman Nate Tenaglia chipped in with 11.
