Tewksbury/Methuen 9, Waltham 4

With 34 goals through her first 16 games, Tewksbury/Methuen sophomore forward Amanda Conway was having a pretty amazing season.

And then came this.

Conway scored seven goals on Saturday, leading the Red Rangers to a 9-4 win over Waltham High. The victory improved the Red Rangers' record to 7-7-3 on the season and kept their hopes for a berth in the State Tournament alive. Tewksbury/Methuen closes out its regular season on Tuesday against Concord-Carlisle, needing a win or a tie to reach the post-season.

Kelly Golini had two goals and an assist in the win over Waltham. Hayley Sutherland added three assists, while Riley Cote, Haley McCarthy and Kathleen Lefebvre had two assists each.

Girls Basketball

St. Mary's Tournament

Tewksbury 47, Melrose 42

It would be tough to find a girls' basketball team with more momentum than Tewksbury High heading into the post-season.

The Redmen improved to 10-8 with a 47-42 win over Melrose in the semifinals of the St. Mary's of Lynn Tournament. They will take on Arlington Catholic Monday at 4 p.m. for the tournament title.

Nicole Chaet paced Tewksbury with 14 points. Shannon Smith continued her strong play with nine points. Amanda Brown chipped in with eight points and Shannon Semenza added seven for the Redmen.

Indoor Track

Boys Division 2 State Meet

Cory Thomas placed second in both the mile and the two-mile to lead Tewksbury boys to a fourth place finish (29 points) at the Division 2 State Indoor Track Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

Thomas clocked a time of 4:22.97 in the mile and 9:35.48 in the two-mile.

"Cory's double was one of the most impressive things I have ever seen," said Coach Bill Meuse. "He is just an outstanding runner and I cannot wait to see him run at the all state meet."

Senior John Fiorello finished second in the Shot Put with an outstanding toss of 51'5.75.

"John has works very hard to get to this point," said Meuse. "I am so proud of him, he has earned the success he has been getting."

Other top finishers for the Redmen included senior Cory Cataldo and junior Eddie Matovu. Cataldo placed fifth in the 55 meter High Hurdles in 7.92. It was just the third time Cataldo had competed in the event. Matovu placed eighth in the 55 meter High Hurdles in 8.13.

"I am very proud of all the athletes and coaches," said Meuse. "Our kids work all season long for this meet and they certainly competed hard today."
