Grateful for Our Sons & Daughters of Italy Lodge

Our top 5 reasons to be thankful list

November may be darker and greyer, but there are many things to be grateful for at the Wakefield Sons & Daughters of Italy. Here are the top 5 on our thankful list.

5. Finding things in common with new and current members, like where people grew up and the trips they’ve taken to Italy

4. Social activities, such as “Lodge Giving” and a Charcuterie board challenge

3. Community time together, including a Veteran’s Brunch, a Holiday Toy Drive and sponsoring a child for Christmas

2. The annual Chinese food Christmas party

1. Friendships among long-term members as well as those who joined within the past few years or even months

At our November meeting we were pleased to have Jeff Klapes, the Traveling Librarian, join us with a presentation on eastern Sicily. We thoroughly enjoyed his stunning pictures and insight into the beautiful island of Sicily.

One of the things members have found in common are holiday traditions. For example, Christmas tree lighting. Italians traditionally light up their Christmas trees on December 8th, which is Festa dell’Immacolata Concezione, marking the official start of the Christmas season. Another is known as The Feast of the Seven Fishes (although there may or may not have been exactly seven prepared).

We’d love to hear about your Christmas traditions! To join us at our next meeting, reach out to President Toni Encarnacao at WakefieldOSIA@gmail.com. Don’t forget to visit our Facebook page to see photos and connect with members from Wakefield and beyond.
