Longtime Saugus Sub Shop To Close After 50+ Years
Lena's Original Submarines has been serving sandwiches on the North Shore since 1964.

SAUGUS, MA — Lena’s Original Submarines in Saugus will close its doors this weekend after more than 50 years in business, the shop confirmed Friday morning.
Saturday will be Lena’s last day of operation.
Located in Saugus’ Cliftondale Square, the shop has remained family owned and operated for 58 years, serving a menu of popular sub, soup and salad options.

Sandra and Jean Stepanian bought the shop in 1964 shortly after they moved to the U.S., according to a history on the Lena’s shop website.
Sandra and Jean handed the shop down to Sandra’s daughter, Alice, and son-in-law, Arkadi, after more than 30 years under their management.

Community members on social media reacted to this announcement from Lena’s on Friday, thanking the business and its managers for their years of work while mourning the loss of a local dining spot.
“Thank you all for (your) love and support today,” Lena’s personnel wrote in a new update on social media on Friday afternoon.
Lena’s is scheduled to open on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
Lena's is located at 496 Lincoln Ave. in Saugus.
