Sons & Daughters of Italy Share Memories of Boston Back in the Day
Summertime was eventful for the active Wakefield Lodge.
Who remembers Jordan Marsh, Filene’s Basement and Howard Johnson’s? How about 10 cent T rides, Hood milk home delivery and the “Big Dig” (construction and an ice cream flavor)? The Lodge was entertained by speaker Joe Malone, who provided a slide show and many fond memories of Boston and the surrounding area. Members not only enjoyed thinking about places and people they hadn’t thought of in years, but also learned a few things. Did you know Dunkins started in Quincy in 1948 and was originally named The Open Kettle?
Outside of the monthly meetings, members also enjoyed a clam bake and ice cream and mini golf at Richardson’s. Unfortunately, the planned apple picking day was rained out. Coming up in October is a mass at St. Leonard’s in the North End. On October 8 at the regular monthly meeting, there will be a tiramisu demonstration! October is Italian Heritage month, and members will celebrate by contributing pasta and sauce to the Wakefield Food Pantry.
It any of this intrigues you, bring a friend and come to a meeting to see what we are all about. Or contact President Toni at WakefieldOSIA@gmail.com. Check out our Facebook page for photos from the summer outings and meetings.
