Wakefield Boys Cross Country Wins State Title, Football Super Bowl Bound
A winning season continued in recent days across multiple Wakefield Memorial High School athletic programs.

WAKEFIELD, MA — A less-than 24-hour span this weekend netted Wakefield Memorial High School a boys cross country championship and a varsity football state semifinal win.
While the cross country team celebrates, the Wakefield football squad is now preparing to head to Gillette Stadium early next month for the Division III MIAA Super Bowl.
The football team kicked off a weekend of winning on Friday night, downing North Attleboro by a score of 31-24 at a neutral site in Milford. Sixth-ranked Wakefield managed to prolong its 2022 unbeaten record with the win over second-ranked North Attleboro.

The boys cross country team continued the postseason success on Saturday with a win of its own, inching past Danvers by one point at the Division II All-State meet.
Boys cross country previously won last year’s All-State title. They have now won back-to-back championships for the first time in school history, as noted in a tweet Saturday from the Wakefield Memorial High School Athletics Department.

Back on the gridiron, Wakefield’s football win in recent days followed earlier playoff victories over Plymouth South and Masconomet Regional High School earlier this month.
Wakefield will now face top-ranked Milton in the Super Bowl.
The MIAA was yet to announce a date and time for Super Bowl games as of Sunday night.
Wakefield is still set to play Melrose this week, though, in its annual Thanksgiving game on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. in Melrose.
